Chapter 257

All Might hands Izuku the notebook covering every Quirk the earlier One For All holders carried, admitting the second and third users are blanks: their era and the Quirk's tangled nature left nothing to find. He wonders aloud whether they even knew what they carried, or left anything behind, until Katsuki tells him to move the meeting along.

Izuku says Blackwhip lasts him about a second, which puts him nowhere near Hanta Sero or Shota Aizawa on that front, though he rates it a strong support Quirk. Asked whether he has contacted the other holders, he says no. Katsuki names the fifth user as Daigoro Banjo, called Lariat, and notes Blackwhip let him move through the air. From that he concludes the Quirks bundled inside One For All must all be lame, and their bearers nobodies. Izuku defends Lariat's strength; Katsuki points out that Izuku likes every Quirk. All Might sides with Katsuki, explaining that All For One's obsession with the Quirk drove him to destroy anyone strong who stood against his evil.

The inheritors, All Might says, were never chosen ones. Passing the power on was all they could manage. Katsuki says that tracks, since they all died young, and All Might confirms it. Asked which Quirk comes next, Izuku says it belongs to his master Nana Shimura and is called Float. Katsuki objects: with Explosion he can already get airborne, so Izuku will waste time learning what he already has while Katsuki sharpens what is his. All Might watches them argue and smiles.

Back at the dorms that night, the two help set up a work study, brainstorm and hot pot party to charge everyone up for the new term, with Class 1-B dropping in. The students talk about becoming second years and the first years on the way, and Tenya reminds them finals are three months out. Izuku reflects that he never pictured All Might watching over him, or holding a roughly normal conversation with Katsuki, and counts himself lucky.

Outside, Shota finds All Might sitting alone and asks what he is up to; not much, comes the answer. Asked about Eri, Shota says she is asleep and her training starts this week, and accepts All Might's offer to help. Pressed on what is eating at him, All Might says that having chosen to live, he still feels useless watching how far the students have come. Shota tells him the Symbol of Peace title held for so long makes it hard to accept how much else he can give them, like simply being present, and being the man he already is. All Might takes it, then asks what Shota came for: Naomasa has sent word asking him to push back his meeting with Stain.

By the end of March, every hero has vanished from the streets. Daruma Ujiko walks through a hospital and greets a nurse, who says it is rare to see him there.

The record on One For All's predecessors is opened. All Might could recover nothing about the second and third users. The fifth user is named as Daigoro Banjo, known as Lariat, the source of Blackwhip, and Nana Shimura's Quirk is revealed as Float. All Might explains that One For All's holders were never celebrated heroes, since All For One kept crushing the strongest, and that all of them died young.

Izuku states Blackwhip currently lasts him a second, so he intends to use it for support work. Shota says Eri's training begins within the week. All Might's planned visit to Stain is delayed at Naomasa's request. Late in March, every hero vanishes from the streets.

Seventeen pages long, in the Paranormal Liberation War arc and collected in volume 26. It ran on January 20, 2020, in issue 8 of the 2020 Weekly Shonen Jump run, with Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo and All Might on the cover.

Chapter 256 precedes it and Chapter 258 follows, and Episode 113 adapts the material. Horikoshi's author comment for the issue says the comedy duo Kaerutei had him laughing until his stomach hurt.
