Chapter 349

Deku hurls himself over open water on Air Force, Fa Jin, and Float, and finds it far too slow. With nothing above the waves for Blackwhip to anchor to, Faux 100 Percent is simply unavailable. As he strains for more speed, One For All's Second User surfaces to tell him to settle down. His gear cannot survive the Quirk at full output, and he asks whether Deku intends to wreck himself before he even lands. Asked if he tried his own Meta Ability, Deku says yes, and the warning comes back sharp: it is a last resort only, because fusing with One For All has turned it into a unique power that no longer answers the way it once did. He tells Deku to trust the friends who all chose their own reasons for being out there, and to mind his own fight.

Back at the aquarium, Uravity and Froppy register that Deku is gone, Froppy privately relieved that she could not bear watching her friend's secret aired like that. Himiko says she has had enough and is ready to be exactly who she wants, one hand resting on the pouch that holds what remains of Twice. She declares she has no use for heroes. Uravity answers that she too will live the way that is right for her.

In Kamino Ward, Dabi incinerates the surrounding heroes inside a tornado of fire with a Near High-End Nomu at his side, thinning their numbers fast. He thinks about how much this resembles the Hosu Incident, the very sight that first pushed him into motion. Ingenium stalls outside the vortex, unable to press closer without cooking his Engine.

Within the flames, Shoto, Burnin, Kido, and Onima confront him, and Dabi complains that Endeavor could not face him personally and instead sent a son and three sidekicks. Onima warns Kido to hang back from the heat, but Kido has been using Traject to redirect the airflow around his own body, and says that as he has done for ten years, he follows his leader's orders because he chooses to. Burnin adds that whatever the family drama, Endeavor always delivered, and now that he has trusted them to Shoto they are behind him completely.

Shoto states he is not there under anyone's orders. Stopping his brother is what he wants for himself. Dabi calls that just another version of being their father's pawn, and Shoto replies it would only be true if he ignored his brother and chased heroism anyway. Dabi rants that this war belongs to the people who actually want to change or wreck the world, not the mindless soldiers, all of them fighting for their feelings and all of them proof of what their superpowered society cannot fix. Shoto asks the obvious question: if he survived, why never come home. As his rotting flesh sloughs away, Dabi answers as his older brother, promising to explain how he became Dabi, how he lived, and how his flames climbed past their father's masterpiece.

Deku crosses the ocean using Air Force, Fa Jin, and Float, and takes a warning from the Second User against pushing beyond what his gear can take.

The Second User reveals that Deku's Meta Ability has evolved beyond its former state and must be saved for a last resort.

Himiko renounces heroes entirely while Uravity commits to living on her own terms.

In Kamino, Dabi raises a fire tornado. Shoto and the Flaming Sidekickers walk into it, each of them stating they are present by their own choice.

Dabi starts laying out the truth of his survival while his flesh keeps falling away.

Kohei Horikoshi titled this chapter Battle Flame, romanized Batoru Furēmu. Fourteen pages, published March 28, 2022 in issue 17, collected into volume 35, and adapted in Episode 145.

Mirko and Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight share the cover.

The magazine printing left Dabi's rotting face unfinished on the final page, with his flesh still attached and the art looking rough. The volume 35 release redrew the panel with his combusting face corrected. Horikoshi's author comment marvels that the student desk he still uses has lasted so long, even after the drawer broke off.
