Summary

Within the vestige realm of One For All, Yoichi tells the others to drop their sentiment, since the fight belongs to the successors now and bringing Tomura down is the only reason any of them exist. Daigoro raises the problem of the villain's regeneration when Hikage senses something behind them: an enormous hand pushing into their space, ready to swallow it. The rest are too fixed on the battle to notice, so Hikage puts himself in the way, shouts that the Ninth now depends on all of them, and vanishes.

Daigoro relays the loss. Tomura, meanwhile, recognizes the handed-down strength his master obsessed over, insisting he wants none of it except as a means to erase Deku. Back in the realm, Hikage's chair crumbles away, and Daigoro fumes at how easily their sanctuary was cracked open.

Key Events

Deku weaves Blackwhip, Fa Jin and Gearshift into a lattice of Blackchains, and the stolen Danger Sense lets Tomura slip every one of them while working out how his opponent has been dodging. Naming Deku his first target and his biggest nuisance, he hounds him across the country, mocking the earlier remark about seeing him cry and daring him to keep pretending there is still a human standing there.

Layers of Blackwhip absorb the worst of several blasts, though Deku's breathing mask shatters, and Bruce points out how far the two have escalated and that they have arrived at Mt. Fuji. Gearshift is nearly spent, Bruce says, but only Danger Sense was taken, so the raw strength stored inside One For All remains untouched; the task is to survive until the Quirk comes back. En panics, arguing that Hikage and Danger Sense are what bought that escape, and one more touch takes everything at once.

Notes

Tomura reappears to remind them his sight reaches into the realm as well, guesses they are plotting another retreat, and notes that flight and concealment are how this power got strong, so he simply has to destroy them before the next escape. He tells Spinner to watch the flattened horizon he intends to make, starting with the mountain.

As he dances in his own wreckage, the vestiges understand why he chose this ground: decaying Mt. Fuji sets off an eruption. He is no heir to All For One, they conclude, only ruin given a body. Deku holds his footing anyway, senses that everything connects, remembers his conversation with Ochaco, and says a person still exists somewhere inside, which visibly irritates the villain.

Fifteen pages, published January 6, 2024 in the 6-7 issue, opening volume 41 of the Final War arc and adapted in Episode 164. Horikoshi's comment is a New Year greeting thanking readers for their support.
