Deku keeps driving punches into the swelling barrier of fingers Tomura Shigaraki has thrown up around himself. The battle is being broadcast into the shelters, and Eri bolts for the doors the instant she sees it. Ectoplasm holds her back. Too much of the evacuation system was wrecked in the fighting for it to move anywhere, he explains, and her Rewind has not built up enough charge to matter even if she somehow crossed the hundreds of kilometers, something she already proved when she tried it on Eraser Head. Faith is the only thing left for them to give. Eri thinks back to telling Deku her dream and to his promise to work even harder for it, and her eyes fill. Kota Izumi takes her hand and admits he is as much of a crybaby as Deku is, which is exactly why watching him fight makes him want to move too. Deeper in the crowd, a civilian remembers Deku standing at U.A. and swearing that everything would be put back together.

At the site where U.A. came down, students and heroes are being cleared out, Phantom Thief among them on a stretcher. Creati hauls Chargebolt along while the two follow the feed on their phones and recognize the dark form Deku has slipped into again. Chargebolt brings up the comic-book habit of background characters insisting the lead will pull through no matter what. Deku may be the strongest person alive right now, he says, yet the certainty All Might used to hand out for free refuses to come, and he breaks down asking whether being frightened means he has no faith at all.

Over Gunga, a news helicopter drops into the crater left by Himiko Toga's fight to lift Uravity out, radioing her condition while a second copter works the wreckage of All For One's battlefield. Hawks catches the transmission, places the name, and replays Uraraka's speech at U.A. in his head, wanting more than ever for everyone to see one another as one. At Central Hospital, Rock Lock holds a phone up for Lady Nagant and asks what made her side with the boy. He pried her heart open, she answers, and there is nothing a villain finds harder to endure. Rock Lock adds that beating villains comes down to draining their will to fight, and Nagant agrees that this is exactly the work being done on the screen. Deku refuses to treat evil as something simple to punish, she says; his dream drags him down a thornier road, and seeing him cornered, running on empty, makes her want to gamble everything to back him. Somewhere in a shelter, one quiet voice tells him he can do it.

The fingers finally give way. Tomura shrieks at him to keep away as Kotaro Shimura's face surfaces in his mind, and Deku, fist already cocked, finds himself standing outside the Shimura family home instead, Tomura's line about all destruction beginning at that house ringing in his ears.

Deku pushes himself past his limits and shatters most of the finger barrier while the country watches the broadcast.

Eri tries to leave the shelter and is stopped by Ectoplasm, who reveals she had already attempted Rewind on Eraser Head without enough charge. Kota arrives to steady her.

Heroes and students, an unconscious Phantom Thief included, are evacuated from the U.A. crash site, and Chargebolt confesses his doubts to Creati.

News helicopters reach both Gunga battlefields to treat the wounded and carry Uravity to safety, which Hawks overhears.

At Central Hospital, Lady Nagant tells Rock Lock why she threw in with Deku.

Running fifteen pages under the title "Wrench It Open, Izuku Midoriya!!", the chapter appeared in issue 15 of 2024 on March 11 and was later collected in volume 41. It sits in the Final War arc and was adapted as Episode 165. Deku and Tomura Shigaraki share the cover.

Quirks on display include One For All with Blackwhip, All For One and an unnamed levitation ability, Cement, and Rewind in memory, alongside the Deku Overlay super move. In his author's comment, Kohei Horikoshi mentions hunting through his old Akamaru Jump issues to reread "ChimidoroK" and finding that the single issue he needed was the one missing.
