Chapter 429

A child discovered his Quirk was a variant, matching nobody in his family, and the kindness stopped overnight. They bound him, shut him in the basement, and when the screaming and crying got to be too much, they sewed his mouth closed. Years on, they announced the country was finished, left snacks behind, and vanished. Eventually a crash tore an opening and he climbed out into a sunlight that hurt and frightened him, wondering what he had done wrong, why the sadness was his to carry, and why the heroes and civilians he passed all had smiles.

On the hill outside Troy, Ochaco turns over the reason she chose this work, which was always the smiles. Himiko's last words keep circling, the ones about how she could have done the right thing and gone further still by sparing a thought for her. Ochaco is alive because Himiko is not, and she reads that as her own fault, right as Izuku arrives. She hides her face and asks why he came. He guessed the spot, since it is where they once opened up to each other, and jumped the distance on One For All. She insists she is heading home and does not want to be seen, but he wants to see it, because she has been like this from the start. He walks her back through the entrance exam, the points she handed over, the name Deku she reframed for him, and the pattern underneath all of it: she puts others first without fail. She has been saving him the whole way, which makes her his hero, and he will not go on taking that strength for granted. He takes her hand and tells her a hand is sometimes enough.

She lets it out. It is her fault, she says, if only she had not been stabbed, if only her head had not been full of useless thoughts, since Transform let Himiko share blood and there had to be another ending available. She wishes she had understood her sooner and wonders what might have happened had they met as children. Izuku recognizes all of it, because Tomura sits on him the same way, a battle he was told he could not fight like anyone else and a road All For One called thorny. Even so, he believes that reaching out past what anyone asks for changes things.

The rest of Class A turns up hunting for Ochaco, Tsuyu leading with tears and an offer to hear anything. Izuku feels One For All's last embers in his hand, Katsuki asks about it, and the resulting realization sends the whole class piling onto him while Aizawa watches and smiles. Izuku reflects that he finished One For All, a braid of power assembled from courage and heroism. Class B celebrates outside U.A. with a commemorative bust for Neito, and Class A throws Yuga his farewell party, Eri singing beside Kyoka.

All Might and Hawks discuss widening the Hero Billboard Chart JP so it honors more than the Pros who fought in the Final War, extending recognition to heroes in the older, unemployed sense of the word. Asked whether he wants popularity out of the equation entirely, Hawks says a system judged only by its flaws loses its virtues too, so he wants a revision rather than a demolition. Even the greatest have a ceiling, and saving more people means the saviors cannot be only professionals. The boy meanwhile wanders the streets, watching the smiles, asking why the suffering was his alone, and starts to release his Quirk when the grandmother who once turned Tenko away catches his hand. She has never stopped wondering whether help ever reached that boy, and it still costs her sleep. As Hawks describes the lesson Izuku taught society that day, that standing by is not a choice, she promises the shaking child that he will be all right because she is here. He cries with relief, Izuku and Ochaco see it and smile, and Hawks decides heroes may finally have time on their hands.

Himiko's death is confirmed, the result of giving up her blood to keep Ochaco alive. Izuku urges Ochaco to release what she has been holding and tells her she is his own hero. Class A arrives to support her too, and learns that One For All still smolders in Izuku.

All Might and Hawks plan a revision of the Hero Billboard Chart that would credit more than the Pros who fought. The stitched wanderer is revealed as a boy imprisoned by his own relatives because his Quirk came out a variant, and just as he is about to lash out, the same elderly woman who once ignored Tenko in his need reaches him first.

Chapter 429 runs 17 pages in serialization and 19 in the volume 42 collection, published July 29, 2024 in issue 35 as part of the Epilogue arc. It carries a color spread alongside its title page and puts Koki Terumoto on the cover. Episodes 169 and 170 split the adaptation between them.

Koki goes unnamed in the chapter itself; his name surfaces only in a bonus page of volume 42. The title deliberately echoes All Might's catchphrase, reassigned to the grandmother who reaches the boy. Horikoshi's author comment marks the tenth anniversary of the series and asks readers to stay to the finish.
