Chapter 48

The internship placements come into view one office at a time. Katsuki reports to the Genius Office in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, where Best Jeanist declares that straightening out unruly people is precisely his line of work and promises to demonstrate what actually makes someone a Hero. Eijiro turns up at Fourth Kind's agency and finds Tetsutetsu already standing there, the two rivals trading startled handshakes while their host runs through how his salary is calculated before moving on to practical operations.

Ochaco spends her opening hours listening to Gunhead outline what his office handles and where its income comes from. Momo and Itsuka land with the Snake Hero Uwabami, who covers her agency's business and the mechanics of building popularity, then departs for a commercial shoot and tells the pair to get acquainted. Itsuka is deflated at missing the chance to watch a Pro Hero work; Momo treats studying under Uwabami as a genuine opportunity, and Itsuka remarks on how relentlessly positive she stays.

Night falls on the first day and Izuku slips out of Gran Torino's apartment into a nearby alley to test his theory that One For All should behave like an ordinary bodily function. Nothing takes. He drills alone until sunrise, then admits the difficulty over breakfast. Gran Torino points out that Izuku has only just located the correct method, whereas All Might's physique let him wield the power naturally from the moment he received it, which is why All Might's coaching has been going nowhere. He adds that All Might struggled emotionally with a Quirk handed down by a friend who had died. Izuku, immediately hooked, asks about that predecessor and catches the old Hero off guard.

A parcel interrupts them: a replacement microwave for the one wrecked during the previous day's mock battle. Izuku installs it and heats their taiyaki, which arrives mostly frozen. Gran Torino grumbles that the plate was too wide to turn, so only one portion of the food ever got warm. The complaint lands like a key turning. Izuku sees that he has been feeding One For All into a single body part rather than everywhere at once, and lights the power across his whole frame. Impressed by how quickly the lesson took, Gran Torino asks whether he can move while holding it, and Izuku agrees to find out.

Best Jeanist explains why he singled Katsuki out for an offer. Eijiro and Tetsutetsu wind up sharing Fourth Kind's agency, Ochaco begins under Gunhead, and Momo and Itsuka start with Uwabami. Gran Torino sheds light on how he once trained All Might, and Izuku at last works out the way his inherited power is meant to be channeled.

Nineteen pages long, the chapter belongs to the Vs. Hero Killer Arc and was collected in Volume 6 after first printing on June 29, 2015 in issue 31. Fourth Kind and Uwabami both debut here, and the material is adapted as Episode 27. Uwabami herself is a holdover from Oumagadoki Zoo, an earlier Horikoshi title.
