Chapter 49 (Vigilantes)

The send off for Captain Celebrity opens at the Tokyo Sky Egg. Pro Heroes take the stage in sequence, acts follow one after another, and the guest of honor finally walks out to a crowd already on its feet.

While the stadium roars, the Police Force assembles outside Onomura Pharma Corp. with Eraser Head and Fat Gum in support. Naomasa's digging had flagged a section of the property that barely communicates with any other department, and a steady traffic of people connected to the drug trade and the villain attacks moving through it. His conclusion is that the Villain Factory runs its operations from there.

Once everyone is set, Naomasa calls it. Monika, dressed as staff, gets the front entrance open, and the raid pours in, cuffing everyone suspicious and hauling away whatever proves illegal experimentation or contraband. Resistance barely registers with Eraser Head and Fat Gum knocking down the serious threats, right up until the secret laboratory, where a Bomber is waiting.

The creature starts to self destruct and Erasure shuts the Quirk off, Fat Gum throwing himself at it to smother the thing. Then the horror lands: more Bombers stand behind the first, far more than one pair of eyes can erase. Further back stands the Scarred Man, who thumbs a trigger and blows the laboratory apart.

He rides out of the blast clinging to the leg of one of five Bombers still airborne. Discovery had always been coming, he concedes privately, though not this early. The setback changes nothing about his intentions. He turns the surviving creatures toward the Tokyo Sky Egg and the man onstage inside it.

A long slate of Pro Heroes turns up for the farewell staged in Captain Celebrity's honor. Fat Gum and Eraser Head, meanwhile, back the police raid on Onomura Pharma Corp., which uncovers the hidden laboratory before the Scarred Man detonates it and sets course for the stadium.

The nineteen page chapter sits in the Sky Egg Arc, published March 9, 2019 and collected in Volume 7. Captain Celebrity holds the cover, where the line about this looking like a job for him nods to one of Superman's best known phrases. The chapter first carried the title Storming, or Gasa-ire, which was changed for the volume edition. Episode 23 of the Vigilantes anime adapts it.
