Chapter 57

Word that Stain has been beaten and arrested races across Japan overnight. Tomura Shigaraki opens a paper inside the hideout of the League of Villains, and it lionizes the Hero Killer, promises his name will outlive him, and barely bothers with the Nomu. He crushes it. The entire plan was to bury Stain, and instead the world will never let go of him.

Elsewhere the internships roll on. Best Jeanist tells Katsuki Bakugo and his sidekicks to keep calm and take things easy, admitting the incident is on his mind too. Eijiro Kirishima and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu head off to meet Fourth Kind. Momo Yaoyorozu and Itsuka Kendo shoot a demo commercial with Uwabami before patrol. Ochaco Uraraka phones Izuku, relieved that he and Tenya came through, then returns to her training under Gunhead.

Over at Hosu General Hospital, Tenya explains that the nerve damage in his left hand is severe though surgery could probably repair it, and that he means to leave it exactly as it is, a standing reminder of how far he strayed and a guard against repeating it. Izuku answers that the goal now is to grow strong enough that neither of them gets hurt like that again. Shoto offers a flat line about people's hands going bad whenever he is involved; the other two are startled that he made a joke, and his insistence that he meant it only makes them laugh harder.

Gran Torino phones Toshinori Yagi and reports that Izuku's handle on One For All has improved dramatically. Toshinori apologizes for dragging him into trouble, thanks him for the training, and apologizes again for his own thin teaching. Then Gran Torino gets to the point. Stain's creed and All Might's are the same creed, and both carry the kind of charisma that moves people. Should the Hero Killer's history and beliefs reach the public, villains will rise, and the credit will land on the League of Villains, whom the public already reads as Stain's organization, drawing new recruits and swelling the evil. Worse, he suspects an old enemy will use the story to clear obstacles from his own path, the man who killed All Might's predecessor Nana Shimura and left Toshinori scarred: All For One. Toshinori refuses to believe it. Gran Torino tells him to hand Izuku the whole truth at the first opening, his own history and One For All included, and ends the call.

Two days on, Stain's backstory is the country's dominant subject. Giran, in a hostess bar, sits with a large man who says crime has gone sour since All Might appeared and floats retiring. Giran suggests holding off, then plays footage of Stain's history and his last stand before the arrest. That attitude, he argues, will move hundreds, criminals very much included, himself among them. New villains are coming, and they will gather around the group the world already ties to Stain.

Tenya is diagnosed with possibly permanent nerve damage in his left hand after Stain severed his brachial plexus, and he chooses to leave it untreated as a reminder.

Gran Torino warns All Might that Stain's charisma combined with the League of Villains could weld scattered thugs into a single cause, and voices his suspicion that All For One is alive and back in play.

Nineteen pages, issue 41 of 2015, published September 7 and collected in volume seven, with Tomura Shigaraki and Kurogiri on the cover alongside a sketch version.

The chapter carries an unusually heavy debut load: Spinner, Mustard, Gigantomachia, Giran, Himiko Toga, Dabi, and Daikaku Miyagi all first appear. Settings span U.A. High School, the Fourth Kind Agency, the Genius Office, Kamino in Yokohama, and both Hosu City and its general hospital. The anime uses a single page in Episode 28 and the rest in Episode 31. Horikoshi's comment thanks a reader for sending a birthday present for Endeavor.
