Chapter 58

Workplace training wraps at the week's end. Outside his apartment, Gran Torino hears Izuku's thanks and his credit for how much stronger the week made him, then answers with a caution: hold onto control and composure, and never push One For All past five percent. Izuku agrees, then asks why a hero this strong is unknown to the public. Gran Torino says the hero life never interested him and that certification served exactly one goal and nothing else, and points Izuku at All Might for the rest. Watching him leave, the old man notes the same charisma running through pupil and teacher. He asks Izuku's name; Izuku briefly assumes senility has returned before catching on and answering, Deku. Gran Torino smiles, turns, and steps back inside.

Class 1-A reconvenes at U.A. and trades internship stories. Eijiro and Hanta mock Katsuki's hairstyle and pay for it. Mina, Tsuyu, and Kyoka compare notes with Ochaco, who calls hers fruitful. Denki asks Minoru about his time with Mt. Lady and gets a shaky answer about not knowing what women truly are. Denki figures Izuku, Tenya, and Shoto gained the most, given the Hero Killer, and Hanta and Eijiro are simply glad they are alive, with Momo admitting she worried. Told the rescue is credited to Endeavor, Shoto corrects the record and Izuku agrees. Denki calls Stain terrifying but concedes the ending looked cool, then starts to apologize; Tenya says it is fine, since conviction reads as coolness, but faults the man for advancing that conviction through a purge that brought him down. He resolves to begin again as a hero and stay off the wrong path, and Izuku smiles.

Foundational Hero Studies follows, and All Might sets a rescue race inside Playing Ground Gamma, where densely packed lanes turn a construction site into something closer to a labyrinth. Four groups of five must cut through to the middle where he waits. Izuku draws the first heat alongside Mashirao, Tenya, Mina, and Hanta. The class handicaps the field, Momo and Kyoka pointing at the toll Izuku's Quirk takes, Katsuki flatly writing him off, others rating the rest evenly.

Sero jumps ahead first to applause, then Izuku passes him on Full Cowl at five percent, threading the site with speed and agility that has All Might, Shoto, and Ochaco all remarking on it while the class registers how thoroughly he has beaten his drawbacks. Katsuki is furious to see Izuku moving the way he himself does. Then Izuku slips, loses the whole lead, and finishes last while Hanta takes first. All Might commends the group for broadening their Quirks since entering U.A., tells them the end-of-term test is next on the list, and gives Izuku a thumbs up along with an invitation: come by afterward, because there is a story to tell about him and One For All.

Gran Torino reveals he never wanted a professional career and became certified only for a personal reason, sending Izuku to All Might for the full story.

Izuku demonstrates Full Cowl at five percent during the Ground Gamma rescue race, showing the class and All Might how much control he has gained. All Might resolves to finally lay out One For All's history for him.
