Chapter 58 (Vigilantes)

Christopher Skyline is still hospitalized a week on, mending from his fight with the Bombers. His conduct that day has crowds cheering outside and congratulatory calls arriving nonstop, and Best Jeanist and other heroes go on television to credit him with the thousands of lives saved. Several Marukane band members are looking after him, Koichi, Kazuho, and Makoto among them.

Captain Celebrity apologizes for stealing Koichi's share of the limelight, but Koichi has no complaint. All Might signed his hoodie, and as a vigilante, any public role in the fight would only bring police trouble. Makoto informs him the police already know.

She had discussed it with her brother. Naomasa accepts that The Crawler earned recognition, since his intervention helped save thousands, while insisting vigilantism remains illegal, so the heroes and other witnesses have been asked to stay quiet. The Sky Egg bought Koichi one free pass and nothing more, and the detective would rather nobody go around calling him a hero. Makoto answers that commendations and praise were never what he was after. Naomasa closes by saying he is grateful.

Shouting from the corridor announces Pamela, Christopher's wife, arriving with their son. Delighted as he is to see her, she hands the boy to Makoto and starts hitting her injured husband to everyone's dismay, calling him an idiot over his conduct at the Tokyo Sky Egg, though the relief underneath is plain. She thanks Koichi for keeping him alive.

Two weeks on, the Marukane group gathers at the international airport to see the family off on their return home. Makoto, Koichi notices, has not turned up, though Kazuho promises she will arrive in time. The press is on hand, and Christopher names two people he is especially grateful to. The first is his manager, whom he praises so clumsily that reporters immediately ask about a romance, and he cannot untangle it until Makoto arrives and states the relationship is purely professional. Asked about the second person, he says he cannot explain, the press leaps to conclusions again, and Makoto steps in once more: someone Captain Celebrity respects, kept private because his past scandals make discretion wise. Koichi assumes she means All Might and never suspects himself.

Christopher thanks Makoto and promises to try his best and lean on the people around him when he needs strength. She reveals she will be one of those people, since she is flying over as well, enrolling at a New York college while staying on as his manager, and then says goodbye and boards.

Koichi and Kazuho head back to his penthouse and talk over Makoto leaving and the way she managed the reporters, with Kazuho arguing that Koichi deserved more credit. He agrees a little would be fine and invites her to supply it, which leaves her flustered enough to tell him he cannot just ask like that.

Meanwhile Naomasa visits the rubble where Knuckleduster and Number 6 fought. His partner Eizo Tanuma reports on blood recovered from the scene: two people, one matching the former hero O'Clock, Iwao Oguro, the other inconclusive, its blood type and DNA mixed with an assortment of chemicals. Eizo ran the Trigger investigation, so he knows what Knuckleduster really is, and he asks whether the thing they are chasing even qualifies as human.

Christopher Skyline recovers as a public hero after the Sky Egg Bombing while the police quietly suppress Koichi's role, granting him a single pass for vigilantism that helped save thousands.

Pamela and her son arrive from the United States, and the family departs two weeks later with Makoto joining them, relocating to New York for school while staying on as Captain Celebrity's manager. Blood analysis at the collapsed building confirms Iwao Oguro was there and returns an inconclusive, chemically laced profile for the second sample.

Nineteen pages, published July 27, 2019 and collected in volume eight, closing out the Sky Egg arc. Episode 26 adapts it, and the cover assembles the Marukane cast around Christopher Skyline.

Makoto's chosen college draws its design from the Avengers Tower. Serialization ran the chapter as Heading Home (Kikoku) before the volume release retitled it.
