Chapter 70 (Vigilantes)

At the penthouse, Kazuho Haneyama relays her manager's advice and presses Koichi Haimawari to get licensed so his heroics can be legal alongside his day job. Koichi wonders aloud why she cares so much, which she denies, and when he tries to raise something else she cuts out for a meeting at Marukane Department Store, promising to hear him later.

The meeting settles who will approach the FeatherHATS about the closing performance, then Kazuho and Nomura hurry off to busk. She changes, he confirms the permits are in order, and the song she wrote with his small revisions lands beautifully with the crowd.

They celebrate at a bar, where the three thugs from before turn up only to offer congratulations, calling the manager Rock on their way out. Asked about it, he says the nickname is nothing and gives his full name, Rokuro Nomura.

The mood darkens as he faces what comes after Narufest, with Marukane's event department closing and his job gone, a loser's ending, though her songs lifted him. Drunk on the walk home, he rambles, then embraces her and confesses he wants to be her producer, calling himself her biggest fan and swearing to do everything he can. Kazuho is touched but still hunting for her own answer, and notes the songs were written for herself, to shore up her own courage. She thanks him for everything and goes.

The three thugs reappear to console him. He admits he wanted her to like him and built the whole persona to be someone else. Show her the real you, they tell him, and go after her without hiding. He agrees they are right, says he has no more use for them, reveals himself as Number 6, and attacks.

Kazuho reaches the penthouse to find Koichi dressing, fighting with a new tie for an interview. Ready at last to confess, she says she wants to talk, then sees the tie came from Makoto Tsukauchi and walks straight out. Koichi follows, too late.

Home, locked in her room, she phones her manager in tears, apologizing for bolting and saying she needs him there. Perched on the beaten thugs, "Nomura" tells her not to worry, that her fan will always be on her side.

Kazuho performs legally on the street for the first time with permits arranged by her manager, and the show is a success. Over drinks he gives his full name, Rokuro Nomura, and later confesses that he wants to produce her, a confession she gently declines while insisting her songs exist for her own sake.

The chapter reveals that "Nomura" has been Number 6 all along and that he survived his earlier fight with Knuckleduster. He beats the three thugs after they urge him to stop pretending. Kazuho, wounded by seeing Makoto's gift on Koichi, calls Number 6 for support without knowing who is on the line.

The seventieth chapter of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court fills twenty-one pages of volume nine and was published January 25, 2020. It belongs to the Final Performance arc, between chapters 69 and 71, with Kazuho Haneyama on the cover.

The chapter originally ran under the title Nomura before being changed for the volume edition.
