Chapter 80

Mezo Shoji asks Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki for light to settle the berserk Dark Shadow, but Katsuki tells Shoto to hold off. Moonfish hauls himself upright on his teeth, enraged that anyone else would harm the students, and bites at the rampaging Quirk without leaving a mark. Dark Shadow seizes him, drives him through a stand of trees, and tosses the wrecked, incapacitated villain aside. With the threat gone, the two boys close in and their Quirks calm the shadow, which shrinks and withdraws into Fumikage Tokoyami.

Back in control, Fumikage thanks them both. He regrets that watching Mezo lose an arm broke his composure, and that his own fury, amplified by Dark Shadow's, sent the Quirk out of his hands. He feels guilty for hurting Mezo, who tells him the guilt is unnecessary.

Izuku Midoriya points out that Katsuki is the villains' target and proposes escorting him back to the facility on a shortcut through the forest. Between Mezo's scouting, Shoto's firepower, and Dark Shadow's unrivaled strength, Izuku figures the job is a cinch. Katsuki resents needing protection and refuses it, and the newly formed Bakugo Bodyguard Brigade sets off with him complaining the whole way.

Moments earlier, Tsuyu Asui and Ochaco Uraraka were fighting Himiko Toga, who had already nicked Ochaco's arm. Himiko explains that her Quirk normally requires a large wound to draw blood, a limitation her machine erases by pulling from tiny cuts. As she attacks, Tsuyu flings Ochaco clear with her tongue and tells her to run for help, planning to retreat as well, but Himiko slices the tongue and pins Tsuyu's hair to a tree with the device. Ochaco returns before the draining starts, dodges the knife, and pins Himiko using the martial arts Gunhead taught her.

Held down and about to be bound, Himiko talks instead. She calls Ochaco spectacular and insists they are alike: both in love, both girls who understand the pull toward becoming like the person they adore. The needling lands. Ochaco is enraged and distracted, and Himiko, remarking that love stories are fun, drives the machine into her leg and begins draining her blood.

The brigade arrives. Unwilling to take on a crowd and unwilling to die, Himiko shoves Ochaco aside and withdraws, blushing at the sight of Izuku as she goes. Tsuyu stops Ochaco from chasing an opponent whose Quirk is still largely unknown. Izuku invites the two along, and only then do Ochaco and Tsuyu ask where Katsuki is. Turning around, the boys find both Fumikage and Katsuki gone. A masked stranger announces from a tree branch that his magic has turned Katsuki into a marble, declaring that heroes do not deserve someone of his caliber and that he will shine brighter on the villains' side. Izuku demands him back.

Dark Shadow defeats Moonfish, then Katsuki and Shoto's light pacifies it and returns Fumikage to himself.

Izuku, Shoto, Mezo, and Fumikage form the Bakugo Bodyguard Brigade to keep Katsuki away from the villains.

The brigade interrupts Himiko Toga draining Ochaco's blood and drives her off, then discovers Mr. Compress has taken both Katsuki and Fumikage with his Quirk.

Kohei Horikoshi's eightieth chapter ran in issue 13 of 2016 and was collected in volume 9 within the Forest Training Camp arc. Mr. Compress makes his first appearance here.

Shoto, Katsuki, Mezo, Fumikage, and Izuku share the cover, and Episode 44 adapts the material. Horikoshi's author comment jokes that drawing Tokoyami nearly gave him tendinitis.
