Chapter 84 (Vigilantes)

Carrying Kazuho Haneyama away through the air on Slide and Glide, Koichi Haimawari makes for the spot where Soga Kugisaki and the others are waiting, hoping they can cut the Queen Bee out of her. He does not notice Midnight, who spots his flight and quietly trails him. Soga is ready to operate the moment Koichi lands, but Koichi stops him with the news that Kazuho has been dosed with a drug. That leaves Soga stuck: leaving the parasite in place is unacceptable, and removing it now could kill her. Midnight then walks in on them.

The heroine tells them she wants Pop saved as badly as they do, and demands to know why a hospital was not the first stop. Soga blames the swarm, then notices the bees are gone and asks why, and Koichi explains that Endeavor burned them all. The good news changes nothing about the Queen Bee, which the drug has left agitated inside Kazuho's skull and which will start wrecking her body if it stays. Midnight has the boys hold their breath and puts Kazuho and the parasite under with Somnambulist, clearing the way for proper medical care.

Endeavor arrives moments later, hunting Pop and The Crawler. Soga braces for a fight, but Midnight talks the man down: the villain Bee☆Pop is in custody and urgently needs treatment. Asked about The Crawler, Midnight says he got away. Endeavor weighs it, unaware Koichi is still within earshot, and lets them take her, reasoning that whatever larger scheme is at work, Kazuho is the one who can be questioned about it. Left alone in the alley, he hunts fruitlessly for traces of The Crawler while Koichi slips off, then breaks open a pipe so the water can douse his flames and cool his temper.

On a rooftop, Koichi finds a figure waiting in shadow and takes him for O'Clock II, the hero who attacked him earlier. The man corrects him: that story broke apart before it began, and what stands there now is the nameless Number 6. Koichi sees the burns covering him and offers help, which Number 6 refuses, insisting his body will mend and that his ruined flesh is the smaller of his problems. He tells Koichi to be quiet and listen. He has never owned an identity or an origin, only emptiness, and years of scheming were meant to end with his rebirth as a great hero, until Koichi wrecked it. He calls him a destroyer of other people's dreams. Yet the hatred is the one thing about him that is not manufactured, and once Koichi is dead the tale of O'Clock II can genuinely start. He swears to kill Kazuho first, since she can expose his secrets, and then Koichi, after which he can finally be real. The confession finished, he collapses, and when Koichi approaches, the charred body drags itself away at speed, leaving a smear of blood behind it like skid marks.

Midnight reaches the group and stabilizes Pop☆Step by putting her and the Queen Bee to sleep with Somnambulist, and Endeavor permits her transfer to a hospital so Kazuho can later be interrogated. Number 6 turns out to have survived Endeavor's assault, horribly disfigured, and warns The Crawler that once he heals he intends to kill both him and Pop☆Step before dragging himself away.

This is the eighty-fourth chapter of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court, nineteen pages published on August 21, 2020, and collected in volume 11 under the Final Performance arc. It first carried the shorter title Dreams, amended for the volume release. Number 6's half-ruined face draws comparisons to the DC Comics villain Two-Face, whose body is scarred down one side.
