Chapter 99

The judging resumes with a Room King Award on the line. Katsuki wants no part of it, so the group works through the rest: Eijiro's aggressively masculine décor, Mezo's stripped-down minimalism, Hanta's Asian styling, and Shoto's tatami-floored Japanese suite, which he remodeled himself. Toru predicts big things for him, while Denki and Minoru manage to be impressed and jealous at once. Rikido's room is unremarkable, but he remembers the cake he has been baking and shares it around, which lands very well with the girls.

The women's wing follows. Kyoka's space is built around rock music, Toru's is plain, Mina's overflows with cute things, and Ochaco calls her own dull. Tsuyu is skipped because Ochaco says she is not feeling well, so the tour ends at Momo's room, most of which is occupied by an enormous luxury bed. Downstairs the votes are counted and Rikido wins, to his own astonishment, on the strength of the cake; Denki and Minoru immediately cry bribery. Before anyone turns in, Ochaco asks Izuku, Eijiro, Shoto, Momo, and Tenya for a word.

Outside, the five meet Ochaco and Tsuyu. Tsuyu revisits what she said in the hospital, that saving Katsuki out of selfishness would put them on the same footing as the people they fight. She stands by the sentiment but not the harshness, and watching them actually go through with it shook her. What followed was guilt at her own timidity, frustration that she had tried to hold them back, and the loss of the easy conversations they used to have with the rest of the class. She wanted this talk so things could be set straight and the fun could return. Ochaco, comforting her, explains that the whole Room King circus was engineered to clear the air and let everyone begin fresh. The five apologize, both to Tsuyu and for the worry they caused.

With trust restored, school resumes the next day. Aizawa tells the class their first goal is the Provisional Hero License, a credential that permits direct intervention when lives are on the line, and notes how brutally selective the exam is. To prepare, every student must develop at least two signature super moves for combat use. Ken Ishiyama, Ectoplasm, and Nemuri Kayama arrive to assist, and the class lights up.

The best-taste competition wraps up with Rikido Sato taking the Room King Award, largely because his homemade cake won the girls over.

Tsuyu apologizes for the severity of her hospital rebuke, and Izuku, Eijiro, Shoto, Momo, and Tenya apologize in turn; Ochaco reveals the contest existed to reconcile the class.

Aizawa sets the class toward the Provisional Hero License Exam, assigning each student the creation of at least two signature super moves, with Cementoss, Ectoplasm, and Midnight brought in to help.

This is the ninety-ninth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia, collected in Volume 11 at nineteen pages and published in the thirty-third 2016 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. Its self-referential title marks the transition out of double-digit chapter numbers.

Ochaco Uraraka appears alone on the cover. The anime splits the chapter, adapting most of it in Episode 51 with the final pages carried into Episode 52.

The chapter's sketch was released publicly before the chapter itself. Horikoshi's author's comment notes that he cut his shoulder-length hair and felt refreshed.
