Summary

Among the fresh intake are Himawari and Kawaki, though Kawaki has no interest in becoming a ninja. His true assignment is to watch over Kae Yukiwari, heir to the throne of the Land of Bamboo, who was sent to Konoha for safety amid a power struggle she knows nothing about. A new instructor named Hana appears to be an ordinary teacher, but she is in fact a sleeper agent planted in the village a decade earlier and now ordered to kill Kae. Kawaki befriends the princess and joins forces with Himawari to expose the would-be killer.

Hana makes repeated attempts on Kae's life, each foiled just in time. She tries striking while undercover, then works to get Kawaki expelled with an anonymous letter, then targets Kae in the infirmary, and later plants paper bombs to scatter everyone before pursuing her. Kawaki thwarts every move.
