Ajisai serves the Hidden Rain as a young kunoichi, devoted heart and soul to the peace-through-suffering creed that Konan and Pain preach. A sealing specialist much like Tenten, she dies early on her first S-rank job, after which Nagato reanimates her corpse to fill the Animal Path role among his six bodies, the second to hold it.
Alive, Ajisai keeps her purple hair gathered into a rounded, onion-shaped knot, and her pale green eyes hold black pupils. Bangs conceal her forehead protector, while her outfit runs to a collared kimono jacket in soft purple, lavender trousers, and a sash of brownish orange tied at the waist.
Her body becomes the sole female form among Nagato's six paths once he takes it for his Animal Path. Following the pattern of the first such body, it bears black chakra receivers dotted over the nose, both sides of the neck, three set vertically along each cheek, and paired studs on the forearms. The hair is recolored orange and bound once more into that same top-knot, ragged spikes jutting free.
Solemn and reserved in life, Ajisai spends few words and pours herself entirely into whatever task she is handed. Her belief in the world Konan and Pain mean to build is total, and she follows them with faith that never wavers. That conviction breeds contempt for the five great nations, which she holds responsible for the suffering of smaller countries dragged into their wars. Yet she is not closed off; through her grudging respect for Tenten she comes to see that a powerful homeland does not define every person born within it.
Konan picks Ajisai to seek out jinchuriki, a sign of her ability despite her youth. She is quick with taijutsu, weaving through a scrum of genin without a scratch and slipping aside from a hurled kunai, and her chakra pool runs deep. Her real craft, as with Tenten, lies in fuinjutsu: rows of sealing tags loaded with rope, confetti, shuriken and more let her spring sudden volleys or blinding paper storms, and she can call up a stout barrier gate or a giant panda at her side.
When Amegakure rebuilds after its civil war, Konan sends genin into the joint Chunin Exams hosted by Konoha and Suna with orders to note any shinobi carrying unusual amounts of chakra. Ajisai's squad clears the written test and the race out to the Demon Desert, and a collapsing ruin drops her into a shared predicament with Tenten. She fakes being knocked out to ambush the Leaf girl, then spurns her offered water, before the two settle on an uneasy truce to tunnel free past a nest of giant ants. Each walks away respecting the other a little more.
Home again, the team is promoted and a thrilled Ajisai receives her first S-rank assignment, which proves fatal. Her remains are carried to the tower where Konan waits, and Nagato reworks the corpse into his Animal Path. In that role she helps trap the Six-Tails' host, unleashes beasts to rampage through Konoha, and clashes with Ibiki before being flung into the village during Pain's assault. Naruto ends her at last, shattering the Path inside Gamabunta's mouth with a Sage Technique.

We ranked the six most popular women of Naruto from worst to first, and our number one is going to start a fight. The official poll got it wrong....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Ajisai is the only female body among Nagato's six Paths of Pain. After she died on her first S-rank mission for Amegakure, Nagato reanimated her corpse to serve as the second holder of the Animal Path.
The name Ajisai means hydrangea, written with the characters 紫陽花 in Japanese.
Ajisai was a young kunoichi of Amegakure and a sealing specialist devoted to the peace-through-suffering ideology of Konan and Pain. She died on her very first S-rank assignment, after which Nagato reanimated her body.
Ajisai fought with fuinjutsu and taijutsu, carrying rows of sealing tags loaded with rope, confetti, and shuriken to launch sudden volleys, and she could summon a stout barrier gate or a giant panda to her side.
Ajisai and Tenten were paired together after a collapsing ruin trapped them during the joint Chunin Exams in the Demon Desert. The two ambushed each other before settling on an uneasy truce to escape a nest of giant ants, and each came away respecting the other more.
