Akemaru is a ninken bred within the Inuzuka clan of Konohagakure, a red-furred hound who partners Kiba in the Boruto era. Much like the older Akamaru in his build, he stands out instead through his scarlet coat.

Name Meaning: ake means scarlet; maru is a typical ending on male Japanese given names

Appearance

Built along the lines of a Great Pyrenees, just as Akamaru is, Akemaru would look much like his counterpart were it not for his coloring. His fur runs red rather than white, the same crimson Akamaru only shows after downing a soldier pill.

Personality

A tender, protective streak runs through Akemaru. When a hard-to-find toy leaves Himawari in tears, he tries to lift her spirits, and later he nips at Kiba's hand to keep him from grabbing a doll he had no right to.

History

During the Parent and Child Day events, Akemaru trails after Kiba to a nearby toy shop, Akamaru at his side, where he means to grab a Kurama doll as a gift for Tamaki. The two hounds and Kiba meet Naruto and his daughter Himawari there, but the doll is running scarce and neither Kiba nor Naruto can turn one up. Himawari's tears move Kiba to help Naruto search, and the pair of hounds spend the day scouring the village with them. A doll finally surfaces, only to be snatched away as the dogs ferry it to the girl. The culprit, a father determined to get one for his own son, is caught in the end, yet Himawari pities him and lets the doll stay with him. With the girl no longer wanting it, Kiba reaches to claim the doll himself, and the two dogs clamp onto his hand to hold him back.

Akemaru also shows up, though not as a playable fighter, in two of the Storm games: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, and the Naruto x Boruto entry titled Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, where he takes Akamaru's place as Kiba's partner in the Boruto era.
