Personality

Her initial coldness is a shell over deep grief, hiding the pain of losing her father and watching her mother waste away from illness. History

To save her dying mother, Tsubaki, Aoi resolves to become the next offering to the demon Black Shadow, her true aim being to reach a leaf of the Tree of Life reputed to cure any sickness. Naruto Uzumaki repeatedly tries to talk her out of it, and at the demon's lair she finally breaks down, entrusts him with her mother's charm, and lets him fight in her place; the petals sealed in that charm overwhelm the beast's sense of smell, and it falls, the healing leaf recovered.

Some time later, haunted by dreams of the tree, she returns to the Crystal Cave with Naruto and unearths its seed, prompting the settlement of Tree Felling Village to rename itself Tree Revival. In Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 the two keep up a correspondence, with Naruto promising to show her the whole village on her next visit.
