Chōji Akimichi

Built round like the rest of his clan and bearing the Akimichi swirl marks on each cheek, Choji wore his light brown hair short and spiked upward as a boy, then grew it out to his waist in his teens, and later kept it slicked back and braided as an adult with a goatee. His clothing tends to carry the character for food somewhere on it, whether the green haori and scarf of his youth or the red plated armour he adopted later. Along the way he traded his hoop earrings for studs, a keepsake from his teacher Asuma.

Kindness sits at the centre of Choji, a polite and caring young man whom both his father and Asuma judged strongest precisely because of that warmth, even as his shaky self-confidence held him back. Food rules much of his life; he is quick to eat and quicker to lose his temper when someone calls him fat, preferring to describe himself as big-boned. His bond with Shikamaru is unbreakable, built on complete mutual trust, and he would lay down his life for his friend without hesitation. The Fourth Shinobi World War became the crucible where he finally conquered his doubts and stood among the conflict's decisive figures. In adulthood he mellowed into a cheerful, easygoing man, a devoted husband to Karui and an indulgent father to Chocho, though a competitive spark still flares whenever the two of them square off over a meal.

An Akimichi to the core, Choji turns the calories he eats into chakra, which powers the clan's body-swelling techniques: he barrels into foes with the Human Bullet Tank, enlarges single limbs to crush or strike, and can balloon to gigantic size to flatten enemies from overhead. The clan's Three Coloured Pills push this further by burning his own fat into chakra, the final red pill sprouting vast butterfly wings and multiplying his strength enormously, at the mortal risk that once nearly killed him after the Sasuke Recovery Mission. By his teens he had learned to raise those wings through his own chakra alone, sparing himself the pills' toll, and with the Butterfly Bullet Bombing he struck down a cursed-seal-empowered Jirobo in a single blow. He also commands Fire, Earth, and Yang Release. His sheer physical might, durability, and speed are staggering, to the point that he is spoken of as holding the greatest destructive force in the ninja world, and by adulthood he is reckoned the physically strongest man in Konoha.
