Dosu Kinuta is an Otogakure shinobi and the de facto leader of his three-man team, entered into the Chunin Exams on Orochimaru's secret orders. A cautious, sound-wielding fighter, he turns against his master after realizing the mission was only a test of Sasuke Uchiha's worth.
Bandages swallow most of Dosu's face, leaving just his left eye and brow exposed. He wraps himself in a loose, long-sleeved poncho with a snake-patterned scarf, from behind which a straw raincoat spills down his back, and a large amplifier rides on his right forearm to drive his attacks. His posture stoops, making him seem smaller than he really is, and beneath the wrappings he keeps his black hair in a short buzzcut.
Watchful and coldly logical, Dosu rarely commits to anything before studying the situation first. He begins loyal enough to Orochimaru, his village, and, to a degree, his teammates, holding his temper when Kabuto belittles the Sound and swallowing his pride to keep his squad in the exams. That loyalty curdles once he learns Orochimaru has branded Sasuke with a cursed seal and grasps that his team were mere pawns sent to gauge the Uchiha's value.
Stripped of any respect for his master, he resolves to kill Sasuke purely to spoil Orochimaru's plans, a reckless fixation that leads him to move against Gaara early and costs him his life. Even so, he was remembered as courteous and dependable.
Dosu's fighting revolves around sound. With a fine ear for vibrations he reads other candidates' pencil strokes to pass the written exam, and the Resonating Echo Speaker on his arm channels sound straight into an opponent's inner ear to sow pain, dizziness, and nausea. Arriving in Konoha with his team, he ambushes Kabuto for dismissing their village and damages the man's hearing before the proctors step in.
In the Forest of Death his squad sets out to kill Sasuke, springing Sakura's traps and running into Rock Lee; Lee's Front Lotus nearly finishes Dosu, but Zaku softens the ground to save him, and Dosu then downs the weakened Lee before the arrival of Team 10 forces the Sound trio to hand over a scroll and flee. During the preliminaries he crushes Choji in a single stroke, driving his sound through the water in the boy's body to bypass the Human Bullet Tank.
Set to face Shikamaru in the finals, he instead gambles on removing Sasuke's first opponent ahead of time and challenges Gaara atop Kikyo Castle, where the sand-user kills him almost at once.
