Enko Onikuma is a Konohagakure genin of the Onikuma clan and a member of Team 40. Warm-hearted yet haunted by the demonic summoning her bloodline gave her, she wrestles with the loneliness that sets it off while holding tight to the friends who accept her.
Enko is a girl of fair skin and middling height, her green eyes set beneath brown hair that reaches her shoulders and is pinned back by a barrette bearing the Konoha crest. She favours a sleeveless blouse in pale blue with green trousers, and rather than tie on her headband she lets its metal plate rest at her throat like a pendant. Once her clan's secret art took hold, her arms stretched long and turned dark, wreathed in a purple haze and demonic in cast, which she usually keeps hidden inside long brown mittens.
Friendly and good-natured, Enko shares her classmates' habit of swooning over handsome boys. The clan power she came into left her deeply self-conscious, however, since she fears its monstrous look will drive others away, and so she treasures any friendship that manages to endure.
The Onikuma bloodline passed to Enko a possession-style summoning that magnifies her strength until she can shatter stone, and her limbs can stretch as well. The gift carries a cruel catch, for loneliness can tip her into fits of rage, and before she grasped the cause her teammates had to pin and sedate her to bring her back. She also grew adept at sealing arts and cooperation techniques, using the String Light Formation to bind an opponent's movements and, joined with others, to widen its grip.
Her time at the Academy ran through the usual milestones, from watching a train slam into the Hokage Monument the day Boruto Uzumaki arrived, to a school trip to Kirigakure where she fawned over their guide Kagura Karatachi. During the graduation trial the class hurled itself at Kakashi for his lone bell and failed to take it, yet he passed them all for proving their teamwork, and Enko was placed on Team 40 beside Dōshu Goetsu and Tsuru Itoi. The squad later joined the hunt for the Byakuya Gang and tried the Chūnin Exams more than once, tumbling out early both times, first into a pit of ink and afterward a sand trap in the Forest of Death.
Her power turned into a genuine crisis when an outburst wounded the team's jōnin leader, leaving the three genin to work missions alone while her rages kept flaring. Ibiki Morino was brought in to lead them, but he moved to break up Team 40 and take Enko on himself as a trainee interrogator, judging that her comrades' fear of her only held everyone back. She agreed, wanting simply to be of some use, yet her loneliness dragged her berserk once more. As Ibiki fought to restrain her and even weighed severing her arms, Dōshu and Tsuru arrived, finally understood how isolated she felt, and reached her, calming the fit. Seeing the bond, Ibiki relented and restored the team.
