Abilities

Ensui commands his clan's hidden shadow arts with real skill. His Shadow Imitation Shadow Bind Technique lets him fasten his shadow onto one target and stretch its reach to seize a second, and unlike the original version he can dial the degree of control at will, even forcing a captive to mirror his own movements. He rounds this out with the Shadow Sewing Technique.

History

Assigned to the Third Division of the Allied Shinobi Forces, Ensui and Santa Yamanaka became key pieces of a scheme Kakashi devised to bring down a reincarnated Zabuza Momochi and clear the concealing mist from the field. He linked his shadow to Kakashi's while Santa seized control of their captain's body, the aim being to extend the bind onto Zabuza and pin him with the Shadow Sewing Technique so Maki could wrap him up completely. Haku's interference threw off the middle of the plan, but once Kakashi finally joined his shadow to Zabuza's, the target was locked in place. The anime adds a sequence in which Ensui helps hold a bisected Jinin Akebino for Sai to seal, takes an injury from Gari's explosion, and afterward talks Rock Lee out of chasing the retreating attacker.

When the united forces converged on the Ten-Tails, Ensui took a share of Kurama's chakra passed to him by Naruto and, together with Shikamaru and fellow clansmen, helped hold the beast fast. He was swept up along with everyone else in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, freed only when Naruto and Sasuke undid it.
