Idate ran him down and edged past him at the finish. Two Wagarashi men then beat Fukusuke for shaming the family and warned him to brace for the consequences, leaving him pleading for mercy. When Kyuroku and the Tea Daimyo's minister moved to strip Idate of the win for accepting help and hand the title to Fukusuke, the daimyo overruled them, noting no rule forbade it. Once the Wagarashi family was ordered dissolved, Fukusuke's whereabouts went unrecorded.
