Gokai

A purple tattoo sits atop Gokai's head as his signature mark, set over short, dark hair. He is of average build and height, dressed in the ordinary Funato pirate gear, a grey vest with grey pants to match.

Gokai is a level-headed man who tries to calm the quick-tempered Funamushi, but his lesser standing means he must bow to a leader who tunes out his advice. Like every soldier he keeps faith with the clan and holds Funamushi in respect, even as the man scorns him and once tries to strangle him. That devotion reaches his son Kobuna, whom he backs in the boy's push to avenge himself on Boruto, and Seiren, for whose sake he pressed the squad to sacrifice. Over Funamushi's grave he assures Kobuna that he will shape him into someone his father would have admired.

Gokai joins Funamushi's elite Funato squad for a strike on Kirigakure, while the wider clan lures the Mizukage's fleet away out at sea. When Kagura Karatachi's shinobi ambush the pirates, Gokai reports the encounter and urges against chasing them into their home village, only for Funamushi to choke him and press ahead. At the village the squad is outfought; after Funamushi wounds Kagura and takes a Rasengan from Boruto, Gokai calls the retreat and carries his injured commander from the field. He later passes on Araumi's orders to abandon the mission, which Funamushi disregards, and cautions that another assault risks their thinned, wounded ranks. When the attack finally comes, Gokai heads the charge and slices through the barriers, trading blows with Boruto and Kawaki. After Buntan slays Funamushi, Gokai bears the corpse home and, when Kobuna asks, inks the Funato markings onto him just as the father had once done. Two days on he comes back with Kobuna, intent on killing Boruto in revenge, but the two withdraw once Team 7 shows up. Aboard a Funato vessel, as Boruto offers his own life to bring the war to a close, Gokai argues the man deserves no swift death and helps beat him. When Boruto hurls himself into the sea and Ikada rescues him and calls the war finished, Gokai protests, yet most of the soldiers crave peace so that children like Kobuna are spared the battlefield. In the aftermath Gokai visits the grave with Kobuna and his mother, offering to help raise the boy, an offer Kobuna gladly takes.
