Head Ninja of Kumogakure

Tall and lean, the head ninja had dark, lined eyes set beneath black hair and a matching goatee. His head was wrapped in bandages, and a Cloud forehead protector shielded his right eye. Over his frame he wore an older style of Kumo flak jacket built with thick shoulder padding. For the abduction itself he switched to dark clothing bound with an obi and covered his face with a mask.

He was known for towering self-assurance, a man who trusted no counsel but his own.

As Kumogakure's ranking ninja during the Hyūga Affair, he travelled to Konoha with an envoy to put his name to a peace treaty. The accord, however, was only a pretext for entering the village freely, the true aim being to seize a member of the Hyūga clan and with them the secret of the Byakugan. Under cover of darkness he crept onto the Hyūga estate and carried off the sleeping young Hinata, but her father Hiashi caught him mid-escape and killed him on the spot.

Kumogakure then invoked the same treaty to demand Hiashi's head as recompense, threatening fresh war otherwise. Cornered, Konoha appeared to comply, yet the corpse handed over was that of Hiashi's twin, Hizashi, whose death sealed the Byakugan away with him.
