Ikada Funato is the youngest son of the Funato clan's chief, a gentle boy who longs to build ships rather than raid them. Grief and rage push him to seize command of his pirate clan's war on Kirigakure before a rival's compassion turns him back.
Ikada is a boy of average height with tanned skin, spiky orange hair, and silver eyes. Early on he wears a black tanktop with brown wristbands, white shorts, brown sandals, and a maroon gi trimmed in black seams and bound by a pale blue obi, with only his right arm run through the sleeve. After he embraces his Funato heritage and unlocks his hidden power, gills form along his neck, his gaze sharpens, and his hair slicks back; he takes to a beige cropped collared jacket bearing the Funato crest on the back over a dark tank top, baggy pants held by twin orange belts, and bandages wound around his forearms.
Though Funato by birth, Ikada never hungered for the fighting or plunder that defines his kin, and he openly felt he had no place among them, a feeling made worse by lacking the gills the rest of his family bore. He is warm and passionate by nature, idolising his teacher Kajiki and dreaming of building an enormous ship to sail the world, convinced as his master is that vessels draw distant lands together; he hid his unusual webbed hands out of fear of being shunned for them. Still, loyalty to the clan lingered underneath. The loss of his sister Seiren and his family's constant scorn broke that dream, and he traded it for vengeance, growing ruthless and boastful, ready to risk and even abandon clansmen for advantage while insisting anyone who could not keep up did not deserve the Funato name. Yet he grieved deeply for Seiren, Tenma, and Funamushi, admitting their deaths were what set him on that road. As Boruto pointed out, hatred rather than conviction drove him, and watching Boruto's team offer themselves up for peace reached him at last; he released his rage, sought to end the war, owned his mistakes, and was overjoyed at the chance to return to shipbuilding.
Ikada inherited what the Funato call the Power of the Sea Dragon, a gift said to run stronger in him than in any ancestor, letting him command water by sheer will and even bend the open sea to his purpose. At his peak he conjured and rode a dragon of seawater and scattered the storm clouds overhead, his fingers webbing whenever he swims and making him strong enough in the water to brave a storm for others' sake. He is also a gifted engineer who built his own motorised skiff and a skilled pilot who reads wind and wave with ease, guiding the entire Funato fleet through the treacherous Sea of Death by carving a safe path across a tsunami. His arc turns on Boruto: he secretly saved the drowning boy, bonded with him, then awakened his full power after Seiren died and led the clan's main force to war. When Team 7 reached him he wrecked their ship, and after Boruto offered his own life to stop the fighting, Ikada dove in to rescue him and declared the conflict over, later placed under Kajiki's watch so he could take up shipbuilding once more.
