Kodama

When their father was slain and the case collapsed for want of evidence, the siblings swore to track down the culprit themselves, a Wind Release wielder marked by a cross-shaped scar he carried away from the fight. Village after village, they set upon retired shinobi who used wind techniques, sparing every one but slicing a cross into their garments as a tag, and they eventually passed a year inside Konoha chasing such former ninja. When Kodama caught his sister speaking with Mitsuki, he cautioned her against making friends of shinobi. The pair struck at another target and drew Team 7's pursuit, whereupon Kodama played the busy vendor, telling Mitsuki the attackers had bounded onto a rooftop. Home again, he saw to Hibiki's hurt arm and promised just one suspect remained before an ordinary life could begin. Their nighttime ambush of Daizen failed, since newspaper reports had tipped him off and he shrugged off their sleeping smoke; his wind assault then wounded Hibiki and convinced Kodama they had found the killer at last. Mitsuki knocked the strike aside just as Team 7 and Kotaro closed in, and with Daizen exposed and captured, the siblings earned only banishment from Konoha, since they had truly harmed no one.

His fighting leans on the sword, where he shows a measure of competence. By trade he appears to work as a cook, wheeling an oden cart that lets him travel unnoticed, and he can patch up wounds to a modest degree.

The name Kodama, written 木霊 or 谺, carries the sense of an echo or a woodland spirit that dwells in trees.
