Shiba is a Kusagakure chunin who turns up at the Chunin Exams finals with a corrupt scheme. Hired to guard a betting daimyo, he tries to strong-arm Gaara into throwing his match, a fatal miscalculation that ends with him cut down by the young Sand shinobi.
Shiba keeps his brown hair at cheek length, with his bangs falling to just beneath his headband. His eyes are dark in color. He wears the Kusagakure forehead protector in a bandanna style, a black band knotted behind his head.
Shiba carries himself with plenty of self-assurance and puts full faith in his own skill. He also has no scruples about bending the rules, showing no hesitation over dishonest tactics if they help the patron who employs him collect on a wager.
Shiba appears at the Chunin Exams finals in Konohagakure, watching the deciding matches with his associate Midori. In the anime the pair are in the service of a daimyo who has hired them as guards. As the bout between Sasuke Uchiha and Gaara approaches, they intercept Gaara on his way to the arena and pressure him to lose on purpose, since the wagers riding on Sasuke would then pay out. Gaara takes the demand as an insult and kills both men on the spot, letting his sand drink in their blood. The killings sate his thirst for violence, leaving him indifferent when he crosses paths with Naruto Uzumaki and Shikamaru Nara moments later.
