Tsurushi Hachiya

A hairband-style forehead protector keeps Tsurushi's long blond hair swept back. Green eyes sit beneath a set of noticeably dark brows.

Blunt and full of swagger, Tsurushi sneers at anyone born outside his village and clings to nostalgia for the bloodstained Mist of old, a period he never actually lived through yet endlessly praises. His true aim, shared with Shizuma, is to drag Kirigakure back into that age of slaughter.

Underneath the bravado hides a timid, deeply insecure boy. Craving recognition, he fixates on defeating the gifted and celebrated Boruto to win himself a reputation. He falls apart under mockery, losing all composure when Denki Kaminarimon belittles him, and he shows a leering streak, taking pleasure in hauling Sarada Uchiha on his back. Much of his cruelty stems from dread of Shizuma, whom he fears will kill him for any failure. Once Shizuma casts him aside and Sarada rescues him, remorse takes hold and he resolves to atone.

At the Academy, Tsurushi was among the rare few who stood by Kagura Karatachi rather than shunning him for descending from the feared Fourth Mizukage, treating the boy as an equal. After graduating to genin he grew enthralled by tales of the Bloody Mist and drifted into a rough crowd, turning delinquent himself. His combat is only passable, propped up by numbers and marked by a cowardly streak, though he is a slippery escape artist and a capable user of Water Release, even leaving written messages inside water. He can also raise a crimson mist barrier that blinds and muffles anyone trapped in it, and he wields a blade with modest skill.

During the School Trip Arc he harasses Iwabee Yuino's class, brands them Konoha brats, and tries to stab Boruto to make a name for himself, only for Kagura to block him and Iwabee to pin him down before he slips free. Reporting back, his gang earns Shizuma's contempt, so that night they abduct Denki as bait for Boruto. In the ensuing clash Tsurushi shrouds the field in mist and exposes Kagura's lineage and violent past, yet he is beaten again and struck down by Shizuma for his failure. Sarada finds and heals him, and out of guilt he reveals everything he has learned of Shizuma's scheme. After the self-styled New Seven Ninja Swordsmen fall, he helps the injured Konoha group back before curfew. Later, during the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure Arc, Kagura observes that Tsurushi keeps reckoning with his mistakes and steadily bettering himself.
