Unkai Kurama

Unkai's light brown hair drapes down over his ears, and his eyes are small and black.

Decisiveness sits at the heart of Unkai's character. He is prepared to take deadly measures against anything that threatens the Kurama Clan, even if that means turning on one of his own, and Yakumo came to regard him as a father figure to the clan. His devotion to their collective survival guides nearly every choice he makes.

When Yakumo's parents died, Unkai and other clansmen petitioned the Third Hokage to have the girl put to death, fearing the beast bound within her; the Hokage refused, and the matter was eventually dropped. Years later Unkai resolved to end the threat for good, since the entity in her subconscious would only strengthen over time even with her powers sealed. Rallying the clan, he moved to seize her, but Kurenai Yuhi spirited Yakumo away.

His talent for genjutsu runs deep, enough to slip free of Kurenai's own illusion, though he had to break off their fight and withdraw, still earning her respect. A keen sense of smell let him pinpoint her even while she was hidden, and his clansmen followed his lead without question. When he confronted Kurenai's group he was met by Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame, Kiba Inuzuka, and Might Guy and forced to flee, only to return and lay out Yakumo's grim history, suffering burns from her powers as he helped them escape the illusion. He stayed behind for treatment while Naruto and Kurenai helped Yakumo make peace with her abilities.
