A retainer serving Ikkyu Madoka, the daimyo of the Land of Fire, Yamaoka was a dutiful sort entrusted with minding the ruler's young son Tento during a Konoha visit, where his likeness was stolen and he was killed.
Yamaoka was an aged gentleman, his short, fair hair combed into a pompadour with close-cropped sides. Half-frame spectacles sat before his dark eyes, and a full, tidily kept moustache adorned his lip. His dress was formal: a white shirt with its collar turned up, a length of string knotted as a bow tie, a dark tuxedo jacket over a vest with a pocket square, and pinstriped trousers paired with plain shoes.
Judging by what little is shown, Yamaoka served his lord as a dutiful and courteous retainer.
Yamaoka answered to Ikkyu Madoka, daimyo of the Land of Fire. During the pair's stay in Konoha, he was handed responsibility for the daimyo's young son Tento once Ikkyu headed off to see the Seventh Hokage. When the boy wondered aloud how many boxes of collectable cards were still on hand, Yamaoka told him each buyer could take no more than three packs, at which Tento declared he would just purchase the whole shop outright. Later Yamaoka discovered his charge drilling shuriken under the bodyguard Boruto and protested that such practice ill suited a daimyo's heir, yet he gave way and let the boy carry on so long as they remained in the village. Soon after, while Yamaoka was by himself, Shojoji, who led the Mujina Bandits, took on his appearance through the Corpse Clone Technique and slew him in doing so.
