Ikkyū Madoka is the ruling daimyō of the Land of Fire. A hard-working, unpretentious leader and the father of Tentō, he shares Naruto's hope for lasting peace and has quietly worked alongside Konoha to keep the shinobi world from sliding back into war.
Grey hair combed straight back, styled sideburns and a goatee give Ikkyū the look of a man past middle age. Rings crowd his fingers and his ears are pierced. He favours a dark, close-fitting bodysuit worn beneath a plain white kimono, topped off by a hat and a short haori trimmed with a fur collar, and a walking cane goes with him everywhere.
Ikkyū approaches life like a man of business, so absorbed in his affairs that he often leaves Tentō to the care of servants and makes up for his absence with expensive presents. The love is real all the same: news of his son's abduction left him enraged and frightened, and though he was ready to pay the ransom, he balked at freeing every prisoner of Hōzuki Castle, judging that turning loose a horde of violent criminals was too high a price for one boy, even his own. To buy time, he chose to assemble the money while stalling. Tentō notes his father's admiration for shinobi, and indeed Ikkyū is casual and modest, caring little for ceremony among those he counts as friends, Naruto included. Unlike daimyō who guard only their own lands or interests, he genuinely wants peace and prosperity, and he backed Naruto and Shikamaru in heading off a possible fifth great war after talking the Land of Earth's daimyō, Danjō, out of seizing the Land of Flowers.
In the anime, lingering unrest in places such as the Land of Waves led Ikkyū to partner with the hidden villages on stronger safety measures after the Fourth Shinobi World War. He later travelled to Konoha for a financial conference with the Seventh Hokage, brushing off Tentō's request to admire a new card and leaving the boy with Yamaoka before rushing off. Days afterward he was horrified to learn the Mujina Bandits had taken his son, demanding five hundred million ryō and the release of Hōzuki Castle's inmates; the smoothness of the snatch convinced him that spies had infiltrated his retinue. Team Konohamaru ultimately rescued Tentō and captured the whole band, and Ikkyū hurried to embrace his safe son, moved to hear how the boy now wished to grow strong enough to support him. About ten days after meeting Naruto, he held a secret conference with the Hokage and Shikamaru at his mansion. Three years on, he pressed Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane over Konoha's repeated failures to recapture the fugitive Boruto, and when Shikamaru's standing as acting leader came under review, he sent his chief advisor, Kobu, to speak in his place. His given name reads as "first class," while his surname can mean "yen."
