Yukimi

Short and fair-skinned, Yukimi has long, wavy brown hair and blue eyes set above freckles that dot her cheeks. In her clan days she wore a rough, sleeveless beige kimono with pink sandals and carried Orochimaru's cursed seal on the nape of her neck. She later switches to a pale yellow dress striped with pink and cinched by a waistband, still paired with pink sandals.

An upbeat girl who is forever smiling and cherishes her family, Yukimi grew up beneath the ground with the rest of the Iburi, whose unstable smoke transformation left them at the mercy of the wind. She and her brother Tenzo would creep as near the surface as they dared just to hear the world above. When Orochimaru discovered the clan he steadied their power somewhat by branding them with his cursed seal, and the Iburi handed several children, Tenzo among them, over to him as test subjects. Years later Danzo Shimura sent a Root boy, Kinoe, to warn the clan about Orochimaru, and Yukimi joyfully mistook him for her lost brother, only to be crushed when he knew nothing of her. She showed him around anyway, including a hidden spot, until word came that Kakashi Hatake of the Anbu had found the cave.

The Iburi captured Kakashi, and on learning both outsiders were after Orochimaru they moved to kill the pair, but Yukimi refused to let Kinoe die and saved them both. She then possessed Kinoe's body to slip into the outside world and chase the sounds she had always heard, finding a carnival and reveling in every new experience. Kakashi warned that Orochimaru coveted her as bait, and Kinoe fled with her; returning to the cave, she found her clan slaughtered by Orochimaru, who then triggered her seal as she tried to transform. As her body began to dissolve, Kinoe held her together with his Wood Release, and the spirits of the Iburi lent their strength to finally stabilise her power. With Kakashi vowing to keep the clan a secret, Yukimi bid Kinoe farewell, free at last from her fear of the wind and eager to see the world.

Like her kin, Yukimi can dissolve into smoke, though hers carries a pink tint, and while in that form she keeps the ability to touch and even possess others, essentially wearing a person as a second body. What sets her apart is her blood, the only one in the clan able to pass the smoke transformation on to outsiders. At first too much wind could scatter her smoke for good, but the combined life force of the Wood Release and the united spirits of the Iburi perfected her power and freed her from that danger. She is also nimble and blessed with keen hearing.
