Orochimaru's Test Subject

Kakashi wanders into the concealed dwelling of the Iburi clan, who set upon him at once, branding him a foe of Orochimaru. When Gotta slips into Kakashi's body meaning to kill him from within, Kinoe halts the act and pins Kakashi down with his Wood Release, arguing that a living captive could yield useful information. Dropping the interrogation soon after, Kinoe confides that he had come to the clan for the same reason, to get close to Orochimaru. Yukimi then arrives and ferries both Kinoe and Kakashi out through a hidden passage to the surface.

Leaving Kakashi partway along, Yukimi tells Kinoe of her dream to venture outside toward the lovely sounds she had heard, then dissolves into smoke and enters Kinoe's body so the two can slip into the nearby town and enjoy its amusements. Back at the hollow, an enraged Gotta corners Kakashi, demanding Yukimi's whereabouts before attacking. Their brief but fierce exchange ends when a gust of wind tears Gotta's unstable smoke form apart, and he dies quickly, though not before handing Kakashi information that sends the young Anbu chasing after the runaway pair. Revealing his real intent, Kinoe refuses to give Yukimi up and chooses to flee with her rather than go back to the hollow tree. Far off, the gravely wounded Orochimaru at last reaches the Iburi hideout.
