A Wound on the Heart

Feeling unwell after his encounters with Onoki began surfacing in dreams, Mitsuki returns to Orochimaru in Otogakure. While examining him, Orochimaru and Log consider whether the events in Iwagakure left an emotional mark only now coming to light. They trace his memories from the moment he met Onoki, studying his growing capacity for self-reflection and the reasoning behind each choice he made among the Fabrications.

Log worries about the toll of having had to strike Boruto to win the Fabrications' trust. Both grow uneasy at the possibility that Mitsuki has guessed they were the ones who first steered his fascination toward Boruto.

Fearing that Mitsuki's rapid psychological growth is outrunning his brain's ability to bear it, Orochimaru considers wiping the memory. The pair revisit his betrayal of Ku and the death of Sekiei, and Log hesitates over whether erasure is right. When Mitsuki wakes, Orochimaru offers him a choice: keep hurting, or let the pain vanish along with the memories.

Mitsuki wakes at home, roused by Mikazuki, with Boruto at his door relaying that Sarada wants to see the cat. Log is relieved the memories stayed intact, and Orochimaru muses that Mitsuki will likely grow strong enough to never need them erased.
