Aesthetics of an Artist

With White Zetsu clones slipping into Allied headquarters, word of the breach reaches the Fifth Division and Mifune orders his troops to respond. Kurotsuchi arrives to question Deidara and interrupts a disguised Zetsu freeing him. When the exchange stalls, she asks Kankuro to open Kuroari so she can address the prisoner directly, but Okisuke's arrival and a botched password expose a hidden clone. Deidara seizes the moment, using a sword as a makeshift ground rod to shed the lightning coursing through him and break loose.

Fleeing with a handful of Zetsu, Deidara scavenges for clay and turns to fight, self-detonating with the same grounding trick when a Konoha communications-nin tries to shock him down. Watching himself reform, he learns of the reincarnation technique and concludes that his art, meant for a single fleeting instant, cannot coexist with immortality, unlike Sasori's ideal.

Deidara's escape unravels through a chain of clever traps. Kurotsuchi lures him with a transformation into Sasuke, Mifune mimics Lightning Release using an ordinary battery, and the bomber is herded to ground where his sword can no longer bleed off the charge. Recaptured inside Kuroari, he declares that he has at last discovered his greatest art and gazes up at the moon.

The episode falls within the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation arc. A background exchange references the correct call and response of mountain and river, a nod to samurai lore and the actor Toshiro Mifune, the general's namesake. It opens on Assault Rock and closes on Shout This Voice Dry.
