Big Adventure! The Quest for the Fourth Hokage's Legacy Part 1

Straining to master the Summoning Technique before the exam finals, Naruto manages only to conjure a legged tadpole before collapsing from the effort. As he fades out, he overhears Jiraiya wishing aloud that his student might use the Fourth Hokage's legacy to sail through the coming rounds. Once discharged from the hospital, Naruto grabs lunch with Choji at Ichiraku and sticks him with the bill, then bumps into Konohamaru, who shows off a new variation of his Sexy Technique. Spotting the Sand Siblings and reminded of the stakes, Naruto sets off to track down the mysterious legacy.

Questioning the Third Hokage and getting nowhere with Anko, Naruto is finally pointed toward a perilous quest by Guy, who promises the answer waits at its end. Choji, secretly tailing Naruto, tips off Shikamaru and Ino about where the legacy lies, hoping it might hand Shikamaru his match. Sakura joins the trek with her own scheme to pass the prize to Sasuke, and after Guy turns up posing as a sage who fools only Naruto, Teams 7 and 10 wind up traveling as one group. All but Shikamaru soon find themselves pasted to a giant spider's web.

Naruto breaks the trap with his signature combo, revealing the spider to be nothing more than a summon, and Shikamaru deduces the whole ordeal is a staged snare with more hazards ahead before Naruto recklessly charges on. The episode slips in a poster for the Lost Tower film and carries several continuity slips, including Konohamaru wearing his old helmet and Choji joining a hunt that should have found him hospitalized. It opens with A World That Was Transparent, closes with Transient Fireworks, and first aired in Japan on 29 July 2010.
