Summary

The alliance of the Senju and Uchiha finally makes real the boyhood wish Hashirama and Madara once shared, a place where children would no longer be marched off to die, and the fledgling settlement binds itself to the Land of Fire. In the early days the two founders walk its streets together, watching over the people. Returning to the cliff where they dreamed as boys, they reminisce, and Hashirama shares that the Sarutobi and Shimura clans want to join, with more sure to follow. He adds that the village needs both a name and a figurehead to lead it.

Key Events

Madara offers the name Konohagakure, which a glum Hashirama first calls too plain, and Hashirama proposes carving the chosen leader's face into the cliff to watch over the village. Tobirama then arrives and pulls his brother aside without so much as a glance at Madara. Having caught wind that Hashirama meant to name Madara Hokage, Tobirama insists the decision must be democratic and that even the Uchiha would never regard Madara the way they do Hashirama. Overhearing this, Madara says nothing as Hashirama relents and becomes the First Hokage.

Notes

Madara later leads Hashirama to the Naka Shrine, the first outsider allowed to view the Uchiha stone tablet, and reads it with his Sharingan to reveal two readings: that opposing forces can unite for peace, or that cooperation is merely a subtler form of war. Blind to Madara's real intent, Hashirama fails to talk him out of leaving. The village flourishes and its model spreads across the great and lesser nations, but Madara returns to tear down the very dream he founded. In their clash Hashirama peels the Susanoo armor off Kurama and wrests the beast from Madara's grip, spending his Sage Art Wood Release: True Several Thousand Hands to do it. Left without their strongest weapons, the two lock eyes, then charge, roaring each other's names. The episode notably shows the Academy already named and features the Yamanaka Flowers shop.
