Boruto, Sarada, and Chocho square off against the Dust Release wielder Kako, an artificial being who savors the thrill of combat. Sarada finds the flaw in his power, but his own strength proves to be his undoing.
Kako reports to Onoki that their scheme has stalled and asks leave to seize Boruto, which Onoki grants on the strict condition that the boy not be harmed, lest he warn Konohagakure. As Kako moves in, Boruto counters with shuriken and a shadow clone, and the artificial warrior revels in the raw human instinct for battle. Worried by the prolonged absence of Boruto and Shikadai, Inojin, Sarada, and Chocho set out searching and stumble upon a wounded Akatsuchi, filling him in on their predicament.
Boruto keeps Kako busy with clones wielding wired and electrified kunai, but Dust Release tears them apart. An explosive tag draws Sarada and Chocho to the scene just in time to interrupt another blast. Elsewhere, Shikadai slips past the Akuta hunting him and reaches a phone to alert Shikamaru before escaping ahead of Ku's arrival. Sarada studies her foe and works out that a roughly twenty-second window follows each Dust Release during which Kako cannot mold chakra, and she exploits it with Fire Release.
Back in Konoha, Shikamaru briefs Naruto, Kakashi, and Tsunade, arranging for the former Hokage to reach out to allied villages while Naruto seeks the daimyo's blessing to intervene in Iwagakure. Straining to force out more attacks, Kako's manufactured body starts breaking down, and a final oversized blast kills him even as he corners Boruto. Onoki asks why his creation defied him, and Boruto stresses that the Fabrications possess their own will. The episode then closes as a genjutsu-controlled Inojin takes Boruto hostage for Kirara. It belongs to the Mitsuki's Disappearance arc.
In Boruto episode 87, "The Sensation of Living," Boruto, Sarada, and Chocho battle the Dust Release wielder Kako, an artificial being created by Onoki.
