The Steam Ninja Scrolls: The Haunted Inn!

Sharing a bath with Tenten, Mirai thanks her for the loan of spare clothes, and Tenten shrugs it off, having planned a spring getaway anyway while worrying that Guy's temper will cause trouble. Right on cue, Guy comes screaming that he has seen a ghost. Mirai gets him to sleep, and Kakashi returns from a snack run to hear the story, though nothing can be confirmed until Guy wakes. Tenten is convinced a spirit is about, while Mirai flatly rejects the idea and has already searched the room.

When Kakashi finds their snacks missing, he first assumed Guy had eaten them, which was why he went out for more. Tenten takes the vanished food as further proof of a ghost, but Mirai is set on disproving it. The receptionist, startled that a guest saw the apparition, recounts an old tale of an armored specter dating to the war years, which supposedly stopped appearing after a mass exorcism. Several staff members add accounts of odd happenings over the past few days.

While comparing the strange reports, the group nudges a statue and notices it rests on a stone base while others sit on wood. Kakashi says Guy has awoken and is now denying the whole ghost story, and the two men head off to settle a grudge over a ping-pong match. Mirai maps out every spot where the phantom was seen and realizes they all face the inner garden. Spotting the ping-pong ball drift on a breeze, she returns to the odd statue, ready to hunt down the so-called ghost.

Tenten startles Guy, smoke seeps from beneath the statue, and a girl emerges as Mirai cuts the stone in two with her chakra blades. The stranger, named Tatsumi, apologizes, and Mirai lays out how she pieced it together: wartime evacuation tunnels showed signs of recent use, so she sealed all but one exit and had the staff fumigate them, forcing the intruder into the open. Tatsumi explains she was traveling broke and stumbled onto the passages, begging them not to expose her, since the Land of Hot Water would surely punish her, and adding that her journey honors her late mother by visiting springs the woman never reached. Moved, Mirai offers to bring Tatsumi along and cover her costs. Only afterward does Guy clarify that what he saw was an armored warrior, tying back to the inn's history, and Mirai recalls tossing out some tags from Guy's room that she mistook for garbage.

The episode advances the Steam Ninja Scrolls arc based on the Konoha Shinden novel and marks Tatsumi's introduction to the group. It aired in Japan on May 26, 2019, and in English on May 25, 2021, with Golden Time as its opening and Ride or Die as its ending.
