Summary

Reluctant as ever, Shikamaru steps into the arena against Temari mainly because his pride will not let him lose to a girl. He sizes up the battlefield and its features at a glance and works out a scheme. Temari, however, has already watched his Shadow Imitation Technique at work and understands its limits, seeming to slip past his cleverness and adjust to whatever he throws at her.

Key Events

What Temari fails to notice is that Shikamaru has been steering her toward the tunnel Naruto carved out during the earlier match. Feeding his shadow through that passage, he catches her from an angle she cannot guard, locking her in place with his technique. Having plainly won the exchange, Shikamaru surrenders at the final second, claiming he spent too much chakra pinning her to keep going, and adding that pushing on would only pile on more bother for himself.
