Overview

Assembled on the order of the Sixth Hokage, the Hanabi Rescue Team was a hand-picked Konohagakure unit placed under Shikamaru Nara. Its first charge was to recover Hanabi Hyuga, heir to the Hyuga clan, after Toneri Otsutsuki carried her off. Beyond the rescue, the team was to look into Toneri's link to the moon that had begun falling toward the world and, if it could, to avert that catastrophe.

Role

For the rescue itself, Hinata Hyuga picked up her sister's trail and tracked her to the moon. Invited there by Toneri, Hinata split off to reach Hanabi, while Naruto and Shikamaru mounted an assault on Toneri's castle. Sai and Sakura freed the comatose Hanabi as Naruto and Hinata recovered her stolen Byakugan, and once her sight was restored she was escorted safely back to Konoha.

The team's second charge was halting the moon's descent. Convinced that Hanabi's captor was behind it, the squad confirmed Toneri's role, after which Hinata broke away under Hamura Otsutsuki's guidance to destroy the source of Toneri's power, a task only she could perform. The first attempt fell short, but Naruto and Hinata together shattered the Energy Vessel and stripped away Toneri's Tenseigan, stopping the moon and completing the mission.
