Team Komugi

Formed in the Hidden Leaf, this genin trio brings together Komugi, Gennai, and Inaho. All three signed on as a unit to test themselves in the Chunin Exams.

The manga and anime diverge on how their exam attempt unfolds. In the print version, the written stage undoes them: Komugi panics over the tenth question and pulls out, an act that automatically knocks Gennai and Inaho out along with him. The anime instead follows the trio through the joint exams shared with Sunagakure. A tip from Neji Hyuga helps them solve the opening problem, and they clear the first round by submitting a blank sheet, a gesture meant to signal that one should never desert a comrade. They then reach the Demon Desert among the earliest thirty squads to make it that far, earning a place in the second round. When the third round is scrapped early amid controversy, Tsunade rules that their performance never justified a promotion, leaving them the lone Konoha team sent home as failures.

Komugi lends the group its name and proves its weakest nerve, buckling under exam pressure in the manga telling. Gennai and Inaho complete the roster, their own fates tied directly to their leader's choices.
