A Clan Possessed by Evil

Freshly brought back to life, the former Hokage struggle to grasp their situation, and Suigetsu is awestruck standing beside Hashirama. Hiruzen and Minato lay out how the men's souls were freed and then reincarnated, prompting Hashirama to bluntly ask who Minato even is. Told he is the Fourth, Hashirama is glad the settlement had known such peace, though he grows uneasy learning his own granddaughter took up the title of Fifth. Orochimaru cuts the reunion short, calming their anger at being raised to raze the Leaf by presenting Sasuke to them instead.

Sasuke first presses Hiruzen about the massacre of the Uchiha, and the old man gravely confirms everything the youth was told, adding that Itachi chose to carry the burden alone. The talk shifts to Tobirama, his choices, and why he entrusted the clan with the village police force as a mark of faith. It emerges that the Uchiha were seen as a bloodline gripped by darkness, yet one that prized love and bonds even more fiercely than the Senju, so that loss struck them harder than most. Having heard it all, Sasuke faces the former Senju leader and puts two questions to him: what the village truly is, and what shinobi are for.

The reincarnated Hokage learn how they were revived, and Hashirama reacts to Tsunade becoming the Fifth. Orochimaru presents Sasuke, who questions Hiruzen about the Uchiha Clan Downfall and Itachi's sacrifice. The nature of the Uchiha and Tobirama's dealings with them are laid out, and Sasuke asks Hashirama what the village and shinobi are meant to be.

The databook timeline implies Hashirama would not have been living when Tsunade was born, a wrinkle the chapter glosses over. In the original serialization Sasuke shows only his regular Mangekyo Sharingan; the collected volume adds Itachi's pattern over it, rendering the Eternal form instead.
