Naruto debuts his new wind technique against Kakuzu, and it fails at the worst moment. This chapter pits the young ninja's unfinished Rasenshuriken against a deadly foe while his teammates are forced to hold back.
A wave of Naruto's shadow clones rushes Kakuzu. Asuma's squad readies itself to lend a hand, but Yamato warns them to stay clear. With Kakuzu occupied by the clones, Naruto attempts to land his untested Rasenshuriken, only for it to fall apart before reaching its mark. The failure leaves Naruto exposed, and Kakashi and Yamato have to leap in to shield him from the counterstrike. Unimpressed by the botched attempt, they offer to fight Kakuzu at his side. Naruto pleads for one more try, insisting he will never close the gap to Sasuke if he must always lean on others.
Naruto sends shadow clones at Kakuzu and tries to strike with the new Rasenshuriken, which dissipates before landing. Kakashi and Yamato rescue Naruto from Kakuzu's counterattack. They offer to join the fight, but Naruto asks for another chance, tying his resolve to eventually reaching Sasuke.

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
