Summary
Asuma drops to the ground while the shinobi under his command can only look on, unable to reach him in time. Kakuzu turns toward Izumo and Kotetsu to end them as well, but Aoba Yamashiro and Raido Namiashi intervene and cut off the attack. In the confusion, Choji drags Asuma clear of danger, and Ino turns her attention to Shikamaru. He rushes to his fallen teacher, discovers a flicker of life still in him, and orders Ino to begin emergency treatment on the spot. Kakuzu, eager to claim the reward posted for Asuma, tries to haul the wounded jonin away, but a summons from the leader of Akatsuki interrupts him before he can.
