Chapter 624 traces the flashpoint of the Uchiha and Senju feud, where two fathers gamble on wounding each other's sons. From that standoff spring the lifelong duels between Hashirama and Madara that shape the clans' fates.
With the four fighters too evenly matched to force a win, Butsuma and Tajima independently arrive at the same ruthless idea: aim for the other man's son, Izuna and Tobirama, and let a parent's horror at losing a child hand them the edge. The strikes never land. Hashirama and Madara wheel around in time to block their fathers. Enraged that anyone would target his brother, Madara calls the fight a deadlock and declares their empty dreams finished here. When Tajima challenges whether Madara is ready to fight them, Madara answers plainly that Hashirama is the stronger man and the odds do not favor them.
As the two sides withdraw, Madara vows their next meeting will come on the battlefield as Uchiha against Senju, and he awakens his Sharingan for the first time. So begins their endless dueling, and in time each rises to lead his clan. In one such battle Tobirama deals Izuna a fatal wound. Hashirama again reaches for peace, but Madara turns him down and carries his dying brother away. Gradually the Uchiha prove weaker than the Senju, and defectors drift over to Hashirama's side. When the rivals meet once more, Madara has claimed the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and confirms Izuna has died of the injury Tobirama caused. Even so, Madara is beaten again, and Hashirama, still chasing reconciliation, stops his own brother from finishing the Uchiha and asks Madara whether they cannot settle things as they once did. Madara replies that his trust is gone, and the only way to earn it back is for Hashirama to take his own life or his brother's.
Butsuma and Tajima each try to kill the other's son to break the stalemate. Hashirama and Madara block the attacks and end the confrontation. Madara awakens his Sharingan and vows to meet Hashirama on the battlefield. Both men eventually lead their clans in relentless warfare. Tobirama fatally wounds Izuna in one battle. Madara gains the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan yet is defeated, and demands Hashirama kill himself or his brother to restore trust.
The chapter is part of the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax arc and appears in Volume 65, released by Viz as Even. It forms a key piece of the extended flashback chronicling the origins of the Uchiha and Senju rivalry.
