The Anbu member tending to Hinata completes her treatment and lets her recover, then puts Kiba to sleep. Out in the arena, Neji is convinced his own past proves that destiny cannot be defied, yet Naruto flatly declines to quit. Every time Neji strikes him down, Naruto drags himself upright again, insisting that he understands all too well what it means to carry a burden that feels as fixed as fate itself.

Drained of his own energy, Naruto reaches inward and asks the Nine-Tails to lend its power. When that chakra begins coursing through him, Neji is stunned by its sinister feel and by the way it knits Naruto's injuries shut before his eyes. Veteran Konoha shinobi in the stands react with alarm as well, recognising the fox's unmistakable presence from an incident twelve years earlier.

The Anbu finishes healing Hinata and knocks out Kiba. Naruto rejects Neji's fatalism and keeps rising after each blow. Out of his own chakra, he draws on the Nine-Tails, whose power heals his wounds. Neji and watching veterans are shaken by the demonic aura they remember from twelve years prior.

The chapter belongs to the Chunin Exams storyline and was gathered in the twelfth volume. Its title reflects the underdog label pinned on Naruto, which he defies by tapping the sealed beast within him.
