Summary

Standing firm even after exposing his own vulnerabilities, the Second Mizukage taunts his opponents. A winded Gaara realizes that the slick water clinging to the reanimated Kage bleeds into his sand and renders it useless. The Mizukage bristles that Gaara chose to target Mū before facing him, though Gaara concedes his rival's power. Sensing where the Giant Clam truly sits, Gaara marks the spot for Ōnoki, but the Tsuchikage has burned too much chakra on Mū to fire his Dust Release.

Key Events

Ōnoki resorts to a fist instead, sealing the clam shut without lifting the surrounding illusion. Prodded by the Mizukage to throw his whole strength behind it, the Tsuchikage piles crushing weight onto his strike, shatters the clam, and wrenches his back in the process, which finally breaks the genjutsu. The Mizukage's follow-up blow lands only on a sand clone left as a decoy by Gaara, who then buries his foe under a towering mass of sand so the oily water cannot spread through all of it.

Notes

The Sealing Team moves in to finish the job, but the sand detonates before they can, and the Mizukage's face forms within the rising steam. Ōnoki warns Gaara that this is no illusion at all but a ninjutsu even Mū never learned to counter. The chapter appears in volume 59.
