Summary

Just as Sasuke moves to end Naruto with his Chidori, Naruto answers with an uppercut that flings Sasuke into the mountainside. While Kurama talks Naruto through their situation and next move, Sasuke conjures a Chidori wreathed in the black flames of Blaze Release, and Naruto shapes a Rasengan in reply. The two attacks smash into each other and nearly obliterate the valley outright. Wrung dry of chakra and aching everywhere, both collapse to the ground side by side and talk over their shared past.

Key Events

The pair eventually black out, and when they wake the next morning Sasuke asks why Naruto never cut their bond, thinking back on his days with Naruto on Team 7. He confesses that he had always been the one who envied Naruto, and says Naruto reminds him of his brother Itachi. Naruto replies that he had always regarded Sasuke as a friend and asks him to join his effort to bring peace to the ninja world.

The long battle ends with the Uchiha accepting his loss. As the two seem to reconcile at last, it becomes clear that both of their dominant arms were torn away in the final exchange, and the pooling blood forms the likeness of two hands clasped together.
